I have had '83 Mustangs with the 1 piece fold down seat too and have seen more of those than the split seat cars but I believe it to be a mid or late/year changeover. Just like many other things that were mid production changes like:
-Quad shocks(appeared during '84 production starting in December of '83)
-85.5 SVO changes(intake, computer, headlights, etc)
-different seats during Fox production
-black interior in 1990

They are not true 40th anniversary models....EVERY Mustang in '04 got the fender emblem but just like back in 1999 for the 35th anniversary there were a few select colors that were the real anniversary models while all of them got the fender badge. In '99 things like hood scoops, side scoops, instrument cluster trim and upholstery were different on the anniversary models. I didn't pay close attention to the 40th specific models to see what was different on those.
Also back in 1989 EVERY Mustang got the 25th anniversary dash emblem but they were NOT 25th anniversary models...the official 25th anniversary model was the "7up" feature convertible that was released a little later for the '90 model year.

Well there is more than 1 difference.....the Dash clock was removed from the top of the dash and the '98 GT was rated 10HP more than the '97 model(probably a computer program difference but could be an actual mechanical difference in cam profile or heads).....those are the 2 that are on the top of my head right now...could be others.

Yes but in the Mustang they stopped in '71 with the Boss 351 and 429 cars....72 and 73 only had the standard 28 spline 9" in the Mustang. Think later.... newer....past the 1st generation Mustangs.

The 9" was availabe in 31 spline all through the 70's but to my knowledge it was not availabe past '71 but my sources could be mistaken....

QUOTE(Shinoda Cobra @ September 11 2007, 12:31 PM)

Nope on both....
Jason is correct on the 2000 R being the first year for 31 spline since first generation Mustangs. 1999 Cobras had 28 spline axles/axle shafts and then in 2001 the Cobra got the 31 spline standard thanks to the introduction on the 2000 R model. In 2003 the axle shafts got much beefier but still retained 31 spline...so the '03/04 Cobra axle shafts are an upgrade for a 2001 Cobra owner but a 1999 Cobra owner would have ot change out the traction lock assy in order to use the beefier terminator axle shafts.
Still open on the Injector question....
Now on to another question...for the vintage Mustang nuts....Who can tell me what this is or anything about it?.....
